GUELPH, Ont. – A total of six Gryphon varsity teams are featured in the latest edition of the ‘Gryphon Weekend Wrap’ for the period covering February 23 to 25, 2024.
 


The U SPORTS No. 1 & 2-ranked Gryphons men’s and women’s track & field teams were in Windsor this past weekend competing in the 2024 OUA Track & Field Championships. The Gryphons made 29 trips to the podium, taking home 14 gold, 10 silver, and 5 bronze. The weekend of competition was highlighted by record-setting performances from endurance runner Max Davies, who set new conference records in the 1000m and 1500m races, and Jennifer Elizarov, who broke the women’s pole vault record with a jump of 4.22m. Also impressing was the OUA women’s MVP of the meet Julia Agostinelli, who took home 4 total medals (2 gold, 2 silver) across the two-day event.

Also in championship action as the Gryphons nordic skiing team, who were in Thunder Bay for the 2024 OUA Nordic Skiing Championships. The Gryphons men and women each placed 8th in the final team standings with the two-day event being highlighted by a pair of top-15 finishes from veteran Alec MacLean

In Kingston, the U of G women’s basketball team saw their 2023-24 season come to an end with a loss to the No. 3-ranked team in the nation, the Queen’s Gaels, in the quarterfinal round of the OUA postseason. 

For the U of G volleyball teams it was a split weekend, with the Gryphon women suffering a quarterfinal loss to the U SPORTS No. 10-ranked McMaster Marauders while the Gryphon men earning a ticket to the OUA semifinals thanks to a thrilling five-set victory over the Windsor Lancers. The U of G men will now head to Hamilton next weekend for a semifinal matchup against the No. 4-ranked Marauders. 

Finally, the U SPORTS No. 3-ranked Guelph Gryphons women’s hockey team earned a second consecutive 3-0 victory over the Lancers in Windsor to complete their quarterfinal sweep. The team will now shift their attention to the U of T Varsity Blues, their semifinal opponent.
