Government of Ontario Lifting Masking Requirements for Indoor Sport Facilities on March 21, 2022

Published on

The Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) continues to work in consultation with the Government of Ontario, through the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries as we communicate important government regulations and updates related to the gradual Re-Opening of Ontario.

The Government of Ontario announced on Mar. 9, 2022 that it is relaxing public health measures in response to the latest status of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Effective Mar. 21, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. the Government of Ontario will remove the masking requirements for sport and recreational fitness facilities.

Should teams and OVA members feel more comfortable wearing masks in indoor settings and during matches, they may continue to do so.

Ontario Volleyball’s Return to Play Guide will be phased out by the end of April, when the Government of Ontario is scheduled to lift the remainder of public health measures and will soon be replaced with a Best Practices Guide for organizations to use, as they deem appropriate. Organizations are encouraged to develop their own Best Practice plans in accordance with the Government of Ontario and their local Public Health Unit.

As Directives are revoked by the Ontario Government, individual organizations, and local Public Health Units (PHUs) will continue to have the authority to keep requirements in place. Please ensure you are keeping up to date on your facility and PHU mandates with regards to the Re-Opening of Ontario as they may differ from the Ontario regulations.
