Queen’s Women’s Volleyball hosted the Windsor Lancers on Friday evening, finding a straight set win (25-18, 25-17, 25-20).
The win comes off a big double header against the Brock Badgers last weekend that saw the teams split the two games.
“I think the girls are doing a really good job of building their trust with one another and finding their confidence. I think that last weekend winning the second match against Brock helped them find that and know that they can compete against top teams,” Head Coach Shanice Marcelle said.
“One thing we learned is to believe in each other and have that trust. That bond is unmatched when it comes to our team,” Setter Kennedy Millin added.
In this Friday’s game it was clear that the team had taken these lessons to heart.
In the first set, Queen’s maintained a consistent lead over the Lancers, aided by pressure at the service line, taking the first set comfortably.
“We focused a lot on our serve and serve receive. Basically, if you win those two elements of the game, you’re in a pretty good spot, so we really tried to dial in there,” Marcelle reflected.
They maintained the pressure at the line and at the net through the second, with a strong offense which successfully evaded the Lancers block attempts.
In the third set, the Gaels capitalized on their momentum and found an early 13–point lead, taking the victory.
In the win, Libero Holly Biasi (Arts & Science) picked up 13 digs.
Setter Kennedy Millin (Education) added another eight digs and 33 assists.
“I thought Kennedy ran a really great offense. She was finding lots of gaps between their blockers and finding lots of one on ones for our hitters so, I thought she did a phenomenal job,” Marcelle remarked.
“It comes down to how we pass, and I think everyone did a really good job and made it really easy on me,” Millin added.
The Gaels rematch the Lancers tomorrow, in the ARC, at 4pm. Tickets are available on the Queen’s ticket website.
