Gaels defeat Mustangs in tight five-sets match

Queen’s Men’s Volleyball open their weekend series against the Western Mustangs with a close 3-2 (25-22, 29-27, 21-25, 24-26, 17-15) win Friday night in London, Ont.

In a hard-fought contest on the road, the Gaels took the initial two sets, but the Mustangs fought back to claim two sets of their own. The final set was a nail-biter, but Queens ultimately came out on top.

Erik Siksna (Markham, Ont.) led the Gaels to victory with an impressive 20 kills, 3 aces and 14 digs.

Zig Licis (Louisville, CO) followed with 17 kills and 15 digs.

Reed Venning (Courtice, Ont.) contributed 14 kills, and Izaak Zabjek (Cambridge, Ont.) added 10 kills to seal the team’s success.

With the win, the Gaels improved their record to 15-4, holding a second place title in the OUA standings. The Gaels will play the Western Mustangs again tomorrow, Feb. 17 at 4:00 P.M, to bring their regular season to a close.
