The No. 3 Brock women’s volleyball team extended its win streak to 11 consecutive games.
The Badgers swept the Lakehead Thunderwolves 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-8) as most of the roster saw time on the court at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Friday, Feb. 25.Brock’s victory was their fifth straight sweep of Lakehead and seventh sweep of its opponents this season.
Second-year libero Aleiah Torres reflected on the success she and her teammates have put together despite the hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’m proud of everything we have accomplished so far. Being 11-0 took some grit and fighting back to pull through with some wins, but it has continued to make us stronger as a team.”
A Medical Science student from Toronto, Torres recorded a game-high 12 digs for the 10th match this season.
“This season, I feel that I found the energy level I need to be at my optimal performance. My mindset has been a major factor in my performance on the court,” Torres said. “My relationship with God has also been an intangible that I count on to keep me calm and confident during games.”
Torres is second in the conference and fourth in the country, with 4.32 digs per set.
Versus Lakehead, the Badgers recorded their season-season hitting percentage with .422, including a season-low eight errors (46-8-90).
“Our desire to not lose helps us stay aggressive during key moments,” added Torres. “I feel that we are still growing stronger every day with every meeting, practice and game.”
First-year setter Lauren Teehan ran the Badgers’ offence with 32 assists.
Behind the service line, Brock registered eight aces, with Chimienti leading the way with four.
The Badgers (11-0) prepare to celebrate their senior class on Saturday, Feb. 26, when they host the Thunderwolves (0-6) at 6 p.m. Tickets must be pre-purchased on University Tickets.
