First Semester Highlights – CBC Bearcats

Published on

The CBC Bearcats women’s team entered the holiday break after a tough month of November which saw them win twice in six matches.  They have played well, but just haven’t been able to finish off their opponent to secure a win.

For example, in their final match before the holiday break they were leading the top ranked Mariners 2-1 at VIU, but couldn’t hold on losing in five sets.

There is still plenty to build upon for head coach Rebecca Wiebe as she explains two of her team’s highlights from the first semester of play.

Their trip to the College of the Rockies in early November was memorable for her club.  Not only did they come away with back-to-back five set wins, but they also were able to bond as a team that will help them in the second semester as they push for a playoff berth.

The play of Janae Bruinsma has also been an all-around highlight.  She is a fifth-year veteran who has become an outstanding leader playing both libero and her typical outside hitter position and is excelling in both.  She is leading the PACWEST in digs (137) and digs per set (3.51) on the defensive side and has had four matches where she has attacked at 33% or higher. She has been fun to watch so far this year.

The Bearcats are enjoying some downtime, but it won’t last long.  They will be back in action on January 12th when they host the Capilano Blues.
