FANSHAWE HOSTS OCAA MEN’S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Published on

LONDON, Ont. – London is calling for eight teams looking to claim the 2023 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men’s Volleyball Championship, hosted by Fanshawe College from Thursday through Saturday.

After winning consecutive OCAA championships and a national title in 2019, the host Fanshawe Falcons returned to the top of the West Division standings in 2022-23 with a record of 16-2. The Falcons will put their 9-0 home record on the line against the best OCAA has to offer.

The two-time reigning OCAA champion Humber Hawks have also advanced, along with the reigning silver medalist Redeemer Royals. Humber was one of the teams to hand Fanshawe a loss in regular season play, while Redeemer took Fanshawe to five sets twice. The Mohawk Mountaineers and Cambrian Golden Shield are the other West Division teams advancing to provincials, with Cambrian being the other team to hand Fanshawe a loss during the regular season.

The top three teams in the East Division, the champion Georgian Grizzlies, Canadore Panthers and Algonquin Wolves will also compete in London. All of these teams will be looking to break the West Division deadlock after sweeping the OCAA podium last year.

A total of eight matches will be played in a span of three days. The OCAA quarter-finals will take place on Thursday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. Winning teams will advance to the OCAA semi-finals on Friday, followed by the bronze and gold medal matches on Saturday.

The OCAA champion will join the host Humber Hawks at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball National Championship, taking place in Etobicoke, Ont., next month. In the event that Humber is the OCAA champion for a third straight time, the OCAA silver medalist will advance.

All games will be webcasted on OCAA Live. Here is a closer look at the match-ups.
