TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women’s volleyball team had their six-game winning streak snapped in a 3-0 loss to the York Lions on Saturday night at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
Scarlett Gingera led the way for the Bold in the loss with nine kills. On the other hand, Olivia Kim had 14 kills and Amarai Endes had six blocks for the red and white.
The Bold’s offence could never find a rhythm in the game as only Ashley Ditchfield was able to hit with a percentage over .200 percent.
The tough night for the Bold began in the first set as the Lions stormed out to a 9-1 lead and never let go. Although the Bold responded, they were unable to put the score within striking distance and York took the set 25-17.
Following that, the second set was a back-and-forth affair as the largest lead in the set was four until the Lions pulled away to take another 25-17 win.
The third set was played close from both sides as the Bold looked to pull off a reverse sweep. Nonetheless, the Lions were able to sustain the TMU fight en route to the 25-22 set and match win.
As a result, the Bold now fall to 9-5 on the season, while the Lions improve to above .500.
TMU hits the court again next Friday as they take on the Royal Military College Paladins in Kingston, Ont. The first serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
