DODD NAMED OCAA WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

TORONTO – Humber College second-year left side Erika Dodd (Uxbridge, Ont.) is the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year.

Dodd helped lead the Humber Hawks to a West Division championship averaging 3.3 points per set. This included 139 kills, 29 service aces and seven blocks totalling 175 points in 17 matches. Also named a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian, the West Division Player of the Year headlines the West Division First-Team All-Stars.

Ngameni Davina (Toronto) of Seneca College is the East Division Player of the Year. The second-year left side/libero was second among OCAA players averaging 4.6 points and 3.85 kills per set, and third averaging 3.89 digs per set. Also named a CCAA All-Canadian, Davina headlines the East Division First-Team All-Stars.

Kiana Huggins (London, Ont.) of St. Clair College is also a CCAA All-Canadian. The second-year outside hitter averaged 3.3 points per set on 162 kills, 26 service aces and a pair of blocks totalling 190 points in 16 matches. Huggins is also a West Division First-Team All-Star.

Conestoga College’s Bianca Marchetti (Richmond Hill, Ont.) is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. The middle/outside hitter is the West Division Scoring Champion averaging 4.2 points per set with 178 kills, 56 service aces and 42 blocks totalling 276 points in 18 matches. The West Division Rookie of the Year is also an West Division Second-Team All-Star and headlines the West Division All-Rookie Team.

Kelly McGuire of Conestoga is the OCAA Coach of the Year. The Condors went from an abbreviated regular season record of 2-7 in 2022 to 14-4 in 2022-23, good for second place in the West Division. The West Division Coach of the Year is also the nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year.

Seneca’s Brooke Allerston (North Bay, Ont.) is the East Division Rookie of the Year. The setter topped all OCAA players averaging 8.05 assists per set. Allerston is also an East Division First-Team All-Star and headlines the East Division All-Rookie Team.

David Mann of Collège La Cité is the East Division Coach of the Year. The Coyotes went from an abbreviated regular season record of 3-5 in 2022 to 10-8 in 2022-23, including a six-match winning streak to end the regular season. La Cité’s only loss in the second half of the season came against Seneca in five sets.

George Brown College’s Jaque Ronquillo (Toronto) is the East Division Scoring Champion. The first-year outside hitter averaged 5.0 points per set with 330 total points on 296 kills, 24 service aces and 10 blocks in 18 matches. Ronquillo is also an East Division Second-Team All-Star and a member of the East Division All-Rookie Team.

In addition to Dodd and Huggins, OCAA West Division First-Team All-Stars include Isabelle Rivest (Sturgeon Falls, Ont.) of Cambrian College; Keyome Ellis (Scarborough, Ont.) of Humber; Anika Gatto (Coquitlam, B.C.) and Rachel Vanderwal (Hamilton, Ont.) of Mohawk College; and Natasha Desjardins (Welland, Ont.) of Niagara College.

Joining Davina and Allerston as OCAA East Division First-Team All-Stars are Carlie Pappano (North Bay, Ont.) of Canadore College; Mélany Delisle (Gatineau, Que.) of La Cité; Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, Man.) and Jessica Joensen (Brooklin, Ont.) of East Division champion Durham College; and CL Viloria (Richmond Hill, Ont.) of Seneca.



Along with Marchetti, OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Stars include Libby Bauman (Kitchener, Ont.) of Conestoga; Cassidy Andrews (Guelph, Ont.) and Hannah Manners (Toronto, Ont.) of Humber; Yvonne Mann (Kitchener, Ont.) of Mohawk; Madelyn Berg (St. Catharines, Ont.) of Niagara; and Chantal DeVlugt (Wyoming, Ont.) of St. Clair.

Accompanying Ronquillo as OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Stars are Katie Bethune (North Bay, Ont.) and Meadow Gillespie (Callander, Ont.) of Canadore; Akemi Boudreau (Beresford, N.B.) of La Cité; Amanda Larsen (Toronto, Ont.) and Katie Stewart (Gananoque, Ont.) of Durham; and Alyssa Diemert (Egbert, Ont.) of Loyalist College.

Joining Marchetti on the West Division All-Rookie Team are Mia Kuepfer (Stratford, Ont.) of Conestoga; Hannah Cowie (Mississauga, Ont.) and Hope Nicholson (Thorold, Ont.) of Niagara; and Emma Clements (Windsor, Ont.) and Geneva Huisman (Amhertsburg, Ont.) of St. Clair.

In addition to Allerston and Ronquillo, members of the East Division All-Rookie Team include Samuelle Ranger (North Bay, Ont.) of Canadore; Terrie Savoie Robichaud (Miramichi, N.B.) of La Cité; Taylor Grant (Winnipeg, Man.) of George Brown; and Loyalist’s Diemert.
