Women’s Volleyball:
The women’s volleyball team has had a challenging start to the season, marked by a transition phase after losing several pivotal players who graduated the previous year. As expected, they faced a tough climb in the Canada West standings, currently sitting at 11th with a record of 2 wins and 10 losses.
Despite the team’s overall struggle, individual performances stood out. Outside hitter Bronwynn Davies-Neira showcased her prowess ranking 13th in kills with a total of 99, alongside Jessica Osczevski, who has also tallied 99 kills, demonstrating their vital roles in the team’s offense.
Moving forward, the team continues to impress with their resilience and unwavering determination. Their upcoming test against Trinity Western on Friday, January 5th, marks another chance for the team to demonstrate fortitude in their rebuilding season.
Men’s Volleyball:
The men’s volleyball team has performed admirably throughout the season thus far, securing a solid fourth place in the highly competitive Canada West Conference with a commendable record of 8 wins and 4 losses. The coaches record has earned them the seventh spot in the U SPORTS Top Ten rankings entering the break. Demonstrating consistency reminiscent of their performance from the previous year, the team maintained a strong competitive edge.
The squad boasted remarkable individual achievements, notably from outside hitters Chris Byam and Max Haronga. Byam exhibited exceptional prowess, leading Canada West in kills with an impressive tally of 210, alongside dominating statistics in kills per set and hitting percentage. Meanwhile, Haronga played a pivotal role on the defensive front, contributing significantly with an average of 2.00 digs per set, showcasing dependency on the defensive front.
Eager to solidify their presence in the playoffs, the team’s focus remains resolute as they gear up for their next challenge against Trinity Western University on Friday, January 5th. The upcoming fixture provides an opportunity for the team to continue their journey toward postseason success, capitalizing on their strengths and collective efforts to secure a coveted playoff spot once again.
