After a weekend where both MRU hockey teams and men’s volleyball teams swept their opponents, U SPORTS announced the three Cougars teams have claimed a spot in the weekly national rankings.
MRU’s women’s hockey held onto their second overall ranking after capturing two wins on the road, extending their winning streak to seven games. The Cougars defeated the TWU Spartans 3-2 in the first game of the weekend, followed by a 2-0 shutout victory on Saturday. Mount Royal’s men’s hockey team earned the tenth spot in this week’s U SPORTS rankings. The Cougars improved their record to 11-5-0 when they beat Trinity Western twice on the weekend with a 4-0 win on Friday and a clutch 4-3 shootout victory on Saturday. The Cougars men’s volleyball team moved up one spot to seventh in the nation after a dominating weekend of play. MRU visited their close neighbours, the University of Calgary Dinos and secured a couple of 3-1 wins.
