#4 Douglas Royals @ #1 Camosun Chargers – Friday February 24, 3:00pm MST | WATCH HERE
The defending PACWEST and CCAA national champion Chargers open their playoff run on Friday afternoon when they face the fourth seeded Royals in a semi-final. The Chargers have been the top ranked team in the country all season and are looking for their 11th PACWEST gold medal.
These two programs met four times during the regular season with the Chargers earning four sweeps. The closest the Royals came to a set victory was a 29-27 loss in January.
The Chargers have been dominate in the PACWEST for a long time and have advanced to the gold medal match in seven straight seasons winning the title five times. As a matter of fact the last time they lost in a semi-final was in 2014 when the Royals swept them and went onto win gold. That season was also the last time the Chargers finished without a PACWEST medal.
Down the stretch of the regular season schedule the Royals finished 6-2 and were tested in four of those matches going the distance to a fifth set. They will definitely have their work cut out for them against the Chargers but will try and channel their counterparts from 2014 and advance to the gold medal match. Their last PACWEST medal was the 2020 bronze.
These two teams met last year in a semi-final which the Chargers won in three sets advancing to the gold medal match.
