CBC Sports becomes exclusive English-language digital broadcaster of U SPORTS National Championships through 2025

Public broadcaster also returns as official television home of the 2021 Vanier Cup

U SPORTS and CBC Sports announced Monday a four-year agreement that will see the public broadcaster become the exclusive English-language digital home of U SPORTS National Championships.

Under the deal, CBC Sports will be the home of all U SPORTS National Championships broadcasts in English through the 2024-2025 season. Digital coverage can be accessed on cbcsports.ca the free CBC Gem streaming service and the CBC Sports App for iOS and Android devices.

U SPORTS also announced Monday that CBC Sports will be the English television home of the 56th Vanier Cup at Université Laval’s TELUS-UL Stadium on Dec. 4.

Having returned as an official U SPORTS broadcast partner during the 2019-20 season, CBC will increase its coverage from six championships two years ago to all 19 championships this year.

“These U SPORTS championship events offer the opportunity for audiences to see some of the top high-performance athletes in the country in action on a national stage,” said Chris Wilson, Executive Director, Sports & Olympics, CBC. “We’re proud to further enhance our commitment to gender-balanced sports coverage with this equal slate of men’s and women’s championship events, and we look forward to sharing the athletes’ stories across our digital platforms over the next four years.”

The announcement comes Monday as the world celebrates the sixth annual International Day of University Sport as proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and marked every Sept. 20 since 2016.
