Canadian Women Defeat Norceca Rivals in Straight Sets

The Canadian Women’s National Team earned their first win of the 2022 Volleyball Nations League with a convincing three set sweep over the Dominican Republic (ranked 7th in the world) on Thursday. Canada was in control of the match from start to finish, winning with set scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-18. Outside hitter Alexa Gray led her team with 19 points, while Kiera Van Ryk added 18 points in the winning effort.

Canada showed real fire power on offence, outscoring their opponents with 43 attacks while the Dominican finished with 26. Canada also out blocked the Dominican with a difference of 9 blocks to 4.

The Canadians managed to regroup nicely after their 3-1 loss to Poland in the opening match up of VNL.

Next up, Canada will have to take on the reigning Olympic champions, the United States, on their home turf. This first leg of VNL is being hosted in Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana. After the U.S., Canada will head to the Philippines, and then back to Canada for the third leg, June 28 to July 3 (Seven Chiefs Sportsplex, Tsuut’ina Nation).
