Canada’s World Championship pool play moves to Poland

Sept. 28, 2022: The Canadian team is now in Lodz, Poland for the next three matches of pool play at the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship.

Team Canada is 0-2 after facing previous champions Serbia (25-23, 25-16, 25-20) and the Olympic gold medalists United States (25-19, 26-24, 25-15) so far in Pool C play.

“We played better with the USA than with Serbia … I thought it was a big step forward in our willingness to compete and our pursuit for the ball, and I thought we were playing really good volleyball in the first two sets (against the U.S.),” said Head Coach Shannon Winzer.

“If we can play at this level, we are going to be a really tough team to beat in the next three games and I think we should feel that we are well prepared going into these next matches and hungry for a win.”

Canada is in Pool C, which along with Serbia and USA, includes Bulgaria, Germany and Kazakhstan.

In Lodz, Canada first meets Kazakhstan on September 29 at 1 pm local time; followed by Bulgaria on Friday and Germany on Saturday to wrap up Pool C play.
