May 02, 2021: Canada is fourth in the final FIVB Beach Volleyball World tournament in the Cancun, Mexico, hub after a loss in the bronze-medal match on Sunday.
The US team of April Ross and Alix Klineman defeated Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) and Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto, ON) 2-0 (21-16, 21-15).
In the Cancun Hub, Pavan and Humana-Paredes were second, ninth and now fourth.
Australians Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar (who beat Klineman/Ross on Saturday) faced Brazilians Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa, who battled with Canada in the semis, in the final. The Aussies won the gold medal 2-1 on Sunday.
Canada’s Heather Bansley and Brandie Wilkerson were 17th this week. As well, both men’s teams (Sam Pedlow & and Sam Schachter, and Grant O’Gorman & Ben Saxton) finished in the 17th spot in this third tournament in a row in the Mexican resort city.
Even though some teams have locked up a spot in the Olympics, including Pavan and Humana-Paredes, there are still Tokyo berths yet undecided as the World Tour continues in Sochi, Russia, later this month.
