Ostrava, Czech Republic (June 06, 2021): Canada’s Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes finished fourth at Ostrava after 2-0 loss to Brazil on Sunday.
Brazil’s Barbara Seixas and Carol Solberg picked up the bronze with set scores of 21-15, 21-16. Switzerland’s Joana Heidrich and Anouk Verge-Depre and the USA’s Sarah Sponcil and Kelly Claes met in the Ostrava Beach Open women’s final, also today, with the U.S. team taking gold after a 2-0 win.
Canada had four teams in the main draw at Ostrava: Heather Bansley (Waterdown, ON) and Brandie Wilkerson (Toronto, ON), who overcame fellow Canadians Pavan (Kitchener, ON) and Humana-Paredes (Toronto, ON) in pool play (2-1), finished 9th; the McNamaras were 17th and on the men’s side Saxton/O’Gorman also 17th.
The Tour continues with a 4-star event in Gstaad, Switzerland, in early July. Canada has two spots in the Olympic Games for women’s teams, and the men’s teams will have one last chance to qualify for the Olympics in a continental tournament in Mexico in late June.
