Canada begins men’s VNL week two in France

June 20, 2023 : Canada’s men’s team kicked off the second preliminary phase of Volleyball Nations League against a tough Japanese side in Orleans, France, today.

Japan’s attacking power made a difference in the 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 25-14) win over the Canadians. Stephen Maar and Arthur Szwarc both had 17 points each for Canada. Japan’s captain Yuki Ishikawa was the match top scorer providing 19 attack points; as well as three aces and a block point.

Canada meets Slovenia on Wednesday; followed by Bulgaria the next day. The team wraps up this week on Saturday against the host team, France. Matches are streamed online at www.cbcsports.ca
 
Japan continues to sit at the top of the VNL leaderboard with five wins as of today.
