Camosun to host CCAA’s top varsity MVB teams

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by Camosun College in 2024.

The Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) institution will host the event in Victoria, BC, from March 7-10, 2024.

“The Chargers Men’s Volleyball program has become one of the top programs in the country as they have consistently qualified for the CCAA Championships and twice captured gold in the last seven years,” said Ray Sarkis, CCAA Men’s Volleyball Convenor. “We are very pleased to have the event return to Camosun once again and look forward to their outstanding hospitality in beautiful Victoria.”

All CCAA Championship matches will take place at the Pacific Institute for Sport Education (PISE), a world class, state-of-the-art facility which houses high-performance, Olympic and varsity athletes. The 14,800 square foot gymnasium inside PISE has had recent upgrades to floor layout and bleachers.

The Chargers, coming off a gold-medal performance at the 2022 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship in Quebec City, vow to be a competitive host. Camosun also earned a national title in 2015. The Chargers, perennial contenders in BC, have earned 10 PACWEST titles in Men’s Volleyball since the 1998-99 season – including four consecutive crowns from 2015-18.

Camosun hosted well-attended CCAA Championships in 2017 (Women’s Volleyball) and 2018 (Men’s Volleyball), receiving highly positive reviews for their execution, atmosphere, and student-athlete experience.

“We believe that these successful experiences at the National level, combined with our history of hosting Volleyball National Championships in the recent past, and our state-of-the-art facility, PISE, gives us a well-defined framework for running events of this magnitude,” said Scot Cuachon, Manager, Athletics & Student Life at Camosun. “The sport experience brings to light the power of inclusivity, and with this in mind, we are focused on delivering a first-class championship experience to student-athletes and all other participants alike.”

The tournament will feature eight teams from across Canada: conference champions from the PACWEST, Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC), Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA), as well as a wildcard team and the host Chargers.

Camosun College campuses are situated on the Traditional Territories of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples.

The 2023 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by Humber College in Etobicoke, ON, from March 8-11.
