Bronze Showdown

Published on

#4 Douglas Royals @ #2 COTR Avalanche – Saturday February 25, 3:00pm MST | WATCH HERE

For the second straight season the Avalanche and Royals meet in the PACWEST bronze medal match after losing their semi-final on Friday.

Last year the Avalanche won in four sets and captured their first PACWEST medal since 2014 and have not won back-to-back medals since 2003 and 2004 when they won two straight bronze.  The Royals on the other hand won bronze in 2020 after beating the VIU Mariners.

During the regular season these two programs split their four matches.  The Avalanche won the first two in Cranbrook before the Royals won the last two meetings including a three-set sweep to conclude the regular season on February 12th at Douglas.

Both teams on Friday were swept in their semi-final so will need to find that extra gear to get motivated to compete for the bronze.  Arguably this is the toughest match to play in after falling the day/night before.

The Avalanche and Royals will find that motivation in their veteran players and they will no doubt be playing for them on Saturday.  The Royals will see the incredible PACWEST careers of Greg Moore and Ben Shand come to an end, while the Avalanche will say farewell to Vittor Mateus, so plenty to get motivated for on both sides.
