ST. CATHARINES – In front of the home crowd at Bob Davis Gymnasium, the Brock Badgers men’s volleyball team delivered a stunning 3-1 upset of the No. 9 nationally ranked Queen’s Gaels on Friday night. Set scores for the match were 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22.
With a back-to-back scheduled versus the nationally ranked opponent this weekend, the Badgers bounced back from a first set loss utilizing a combination of strong service runs, sound defence, and a versatile attack to earn the impressive Friday night win. Brock tallied 10 total service aces, while registering 24 digs compared to just 15 for Queen’s. The Badgers also saw six players record five or more points in the four set victory.
Guiding the team from his setter position, Grant Reddon was once again sensational for the Badgers finishing the night with 44 total assists, along with three kills and two aces to chip in with the scoring as well.
Spreading the ball to plenty of attackers, Reddon most often found Kylar Code who notched a game-high 21 points from 14 kills and a new career-high seven service aces. Code now has five games of 20 or more points scored this season. Also reaching double-digits, both Sauli Lianga and Devin Cooney added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Queen’s Erik Sisna recorded a team-high 19.5 points from 17 kills, two aces, and one block assist. Sisna was the only Gael to reach double-digits in the loss.
Brock and Queen’s are right back on the court at Bob Davis Gymnasium tomorrow night. First serve for the second contest in the back-to-back is scheduled for 8 p.m. Tickets for the home game can be purchased on University Tickets, while the action is also streamed online via OUA.tv.
