The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team hosted the Brock Badgers on Friday (Nov. 8) night at Goldring Centre, with the Blues continuing their undefeated streak to start the new season, earning a 3-0 victory over the visitors.
In a competitive match, the Blues demonstrated resilience and control, claiming victory in straight sets (25-22, 25-23, 26-24). Each set saw intense exchanges as Brock fought to stay within reach, keeping the score tight throughout. Toronto’s consistent defense and sharp attacks allowed them to stave off Brock’s attempts at momentum, particularly in the latter parts of each set, securing the win and maintaining their perfect record.
Individually, the Blues were led by several standout performances. Jayden Talsma topped the kill leaderboard with 11 kills, while Luka Minic and Hunter Arulpragasam also contributed significantly in attack. Michael Hickey controlled the pace, leading with 33 assists, setting up his teammates effectively. Minic was also strong at the net defensively with five blocks.
The Brock Badgers, though winless this season, put up a strong fight, with key performances from players like Devin Cooney and Kylar Code, who kept the game close. Brock’s persistence and resilience were evident as they pushed Toronto to close scores in each set, demonstrating potential despite their challenging season.
The Blues look to continue their unbeaten streak, showcasing depth and composure. They will carry this momentum forward as they aim to remain atop the standings. The Blues face the Badgers, again, at 6 p.m. on November 9 at Goldring Centre. Tickets are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets and the game will be streamed online via oua.tv.
