The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team fell to the No. 4 nationally-ranked Queen’s Gaels 0-3 on Saturday (Jan.13) afternoon.
Set scores for the match were 18-25, 21-25, 18-25.
Despite the loss, the Blues were able to demonstrate their ability to play as a team. Every member on the court contributed to multiple heart-racing rallies. The Blues performance was highlighted by scoring run in the second set. While down 16-24, the Blues recorded five-straight set points, but ultimately couldn’t hold on. The team’s determination to rally back saw the Blues lead the game in total attacks over the Gaels.
Third-year outside hitter Julia Murmann led the Blues with a team high of 10 points through 10 kills. The Blues offence was guided by setters Anna Arellano and Robin Melnick who registered 17 and six assists respectively. First-year libero Delaney Watson had a game-high 11 digs.
Queen’s outside hitter Hannah Duchesneau led the Gaels, tallying 16 total points on the night from 13 kills, one service ace, and two solo block.
The Blues return to action on Friday, January 19 when they travel to Guelph, Ont. to take on the Guelph Gryphons. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. The match will be live streamed online at oua.tv.
