The University of Toronto women’s volleyball team fell 3-0 (19-25, 18-25, 22-25) to the TMU Bold on Friday (Oct. 20) evening at the Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House.
The Blues were led by second-year outside hitter Olivia Zhu who finished the game with 14.5 points including 11 kills, five digs and one ace. Outside hitter Julia Murmann recorded 13 points in the match with, 14 digs, a game-high 12 kills, one service ace and one solo block.
The first set began with the Blues going on a five-point scoring run. The Blues held the lead until midway thought the first set when the Bold went on an 8-3 scoring run to tie the game 13-13. Following the tie, the Bold assumed the lead with scoring runs that would lead them to take the set 25-19.
While the Blues scored the first point of the second set, they were bested by the Bold’s defense as they trailed for the remainder of the set. TMU took the set 25-18.
The third set was a close battle between the Blues and the Bold. As the set began the Blues began to dominate with kills from Murmann and Zhu. While the Bold’s offense took over through the third, the Blues rallied back as they were down 17-24 scoring five straight points, along with crucial blocks from middle blocker Anna Gadomski. However, they were ultimate beaten 25-22 by the Bold.
Next, the Blues will remain at home for their final preseason match against the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, October 28. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tickets for the contest are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets.
