The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team fell 3-0 to the No. 5 nationally-ranked Queen’s Gaels in the OUA Quarter-Finals on Friday (Feb. 23) night in Kingston, Ont.
Set scores for the match were 20-25, 15-25, 27-29.
Despite falling in three sets, the Blues kept up with the Gaels in the first and third set, keeping Queen’s within reach, while holding leads throughout both sets. The Gaels led the game offensively, leading in points (66.5-34.0), kills (44-26) and service aces (10-2). While on the defensive end, Queen’s finished ahead in blocks (12-6) and digs (35-32).
Outside hitter Hunter Arulpragasam led the way once again. The Abbotsford, B.C. native finished the game with 11 points, from ten kills and one service ace. Just behind him was veteran John Dunning who recorded six kills, four block assists and one solo block for nine points.
Michael Hickey set up the offence for the Blues finishing the game with 17 assists through three sets. Hickey also led the team with a team-high 10 digs.
The Gaels were led by middle Reed Venning who tallied 16 points, with nine kills, five service aces, two block assists and one solo block.
