The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team defeated the TMU Bold 3-1 on Friday (Feb. 9) evening.
Set scores in the match were 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23.
After dropping the first set to their crosstown rivals, the Blues battled back through three-straight sets to take the win. Although the Bold had a slight advantage offensively, recording 123 attacks for 48 kills compared to the Blues 119 attacks for 47 kills, it was the Blues composure that set them apart. While the Bold recorded 23 attacking errors, the Blues tallied 16 making the difference on the night.
Third-year outside hitter Hunter Arulpragasam led all players with 24.5 total points, made up of 22 kills, five digs, and one service ace. Second-year middle Nic Silon was the star of the net defensively setting a game-high nine total blocks, followed by first-year outside hitter Joshua Chapman who recorded four total blocks.
Kai Higuchi set a team high for the TMU Bold with 18.5 total points made up of 17 kills, one solo and one assisted block.
Setter Michael Hickey directed the Blues offense with 33 assists, while, second-year libero Kenneth Mann led defensively with seven digs.
The Blues will return to the court tomorrow, Saturday (Feb. 9), to battle TMU Bold once again. First serve is set for 8 p.m. All the action can also be caught online via oua.tv.
