WINNIPEG — A sweep wasn’t meant to be for Bisons men’s volleyball this week.
After a Wednesday victory won their school the Duckworth Challenge, Manitoba (5-5) was overwhelmed on Saturday — losing to the Winnipeg Wesmen (6-4) in straight sets (22-25, 21-25, 24-26).
Brendan Warren had five blocks and an ace, while setter Jack Mandryk continued an excellent fourth-year campaign, totalling 23 assists.
Missed opportunities hurt the Bisons, as they hit just .098% for the match. Winnipeg hit .219, with their best coming in a .314% second set.
Daniel Thiessen led the Wesmen with 16 kills. Nigel Nielsen had 12 kills on 25 attempts; a strong .360% in efficiency.
Next up, the Bisons host the Saskatchewan Huskies on January 28 and 29 at IGAC. Limited spectators will be allowed at IGAC, with tickets available on Showpass.
