Bearcats Ready To Eat

The CBC Bearcats missed out on the PACWEST championship tournament last season but head coach Rebecca Wiebe learned some valuable lessons. Now in her fourth season, she expects more from her athletes with her team trying to build some momentum after a four-set win over Douglas on Saturday.

Her recruiting class has been good bringing back a veteran leader to compliment the young talent that are cutting their teeth at the collegiate level.

GRADUATED:

Paige VanDellen has transferred to VIU after being named to the All-Rookie teams two seasons ago. She was a factor offensively for the Bearcats last season leading her club with 156 kills and tallied 34 blocks

Camryn Visscher has graduated from CBC

Makenna Lane has also graduated from CBC

IMPACT RETURNERS:

All-Star Janae Bruinsma (pictured) returns to CBC for her fifth and final year and will once again be a focal point for their offence. Last season she collected 86 kills and 105 total offensive points while leading her team with 138 digs.

Middle blocker Kiana Wiebe is back for her second season with the Bearcats and will need to continue to grow into her position after collecting 24 blocks last year.

KEY ADDITIONS:

Nicole Devries, took a few years away from volleyball after playing two years at CBC and one other at Thompson Rivers University. She returns to the Bearcats hungry for success and will act as a great veteran leader for this young roster.

Jill Barkey comes to the Bearcats out of the Lions Volleyball Club and Centennial High School in Calgary.

Marissa Bitter is a local Abbotsford, product entering the program from MEI.

The Bearcats hit the road for back-to-back matches at Capilano beginning on Friday.
