2024 started the right way for the Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team, as they completed the 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-13) sweep over the RMC Paladins on Sunday, Jan. 7 at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Outside hitter Madison Tuck delivered a career-high 13.5 points off seven kills, six service aces and 0.5 blocks. Fellow outside Daryan Chadwick led all hitters with 10 kills and defenders with six digs. First-year setter Mackenna Knox facilitated the Brock offence, dishing out 29 assists as the Badgers ended with a .403 hitting percentage.
The Badgers stormed out to an early 13-5 lead in the first set. The Paladins brought the game as close to four at 14-10. Strong serving from Brock helped take RMC out of rhythm as Tuck’s ace sealed the first set win 25-14.
In the second, the Paladins kept tight with the Badgers early, but Brock’s exceptional attacking took over, as they notched 18 kills in the set. The Paladins saw themselves down 19-6, which prompted their second timeout. The Badgers kept their momentum rolling, winning the set 25-10.
Much like the second set, the visitors hung around early at 4-4 before the Badgers went on a 14-0 run. A small push from the Paladins prompted Brock to use a timeout while up 21-11. Coming out of the timeout, the Badgers remained focused and finished off the match.
Up next, the Badgers (9-1) travel to North Bay to play the Nipissing Lakers (3-5) on Friday, Jan. 12. First serve is at 6 p.m. and can be seen on OUA.tv.
