Brock competed well but dropped a close contest on Saturday night.
The Brock Badgers men’s volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 21-25, 18-25) defeat to the No. 4 Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Devin Cooney led all players with 20 points from 17 kills and three service aces while Adam Shapcott recorded a team-high 38 assists in the contest.
Both teams traded points late into the first set, but eventually Queen’s was able to pull ahead for the 25-19 win.
The Badgers pulled ahead in the second set, leading 20-14 and forcing a Gaels timeout. The visitors attempted to pull themselves back into the contest, but the Badgers held strong for a 25-20 victory, finished off by a touch of finesse from Cooney for his fifth kill of the set.
Early in the third set, both teams traded points until Queen’s broke the deadlock, going on an 8-3 run which set them up for the 25-21 set win.
A strong start from Queen’s saw them take an early lead in the fourth set as they thwarted any attempt of a Badgers comeback, seeing out the 25-19 set win for the match victory.
The Gaels notched a .449 hitting percentage while the Badgers mustered .121.
