PETERBOROUGH – Finishing out the OUA regular season in Peterborough, the Brock Badgers men’s volleyball team picked up a straight sets win in the first match of a doubleheader series versus the Trent Excalibur. Set scores in the Saturday afternoon contest were 25-20, 25-20, 25-20.
After earning back-to-back wins over a nationally ranked opponent one week prior, the Badgers continued to roll with the momentum as they quickly dismantled the Excalibur defence utilizing powerful attacks from all sides of the court.
Both first-year outside hitter KJ Robinson and second-year standout Kylar Code were unstoppable, with Robinson converting 25 attacks into 14 kills, while Code delivered eight on 15 total attacks. For the freshman Robinson, he finished the match with a game-high 15 points, adding two block assists to his scoring totals. Meanwhile, Code tallied 10.5 points registering an additional two service aces and one block assist.
Guiding the Badgers attack was third-year setter Grant Reddon who recorded 34 assists through the quick three set contest. Reddon currently leads the OUA this season in assists per set averaging 9.92 on the year.
The relentless pressure from the Brock side stifled any offensive movement for the Excalibur. No Trent player finished with more than five points in the convincing Badgers victory.
To close out the doubleheader series, both the Badgers and Excalibur will get right back out on the court tomorrow afternoon. First serve in the OUA regular season finale is scheduled for 3 p.m. with the action streamed online via OUA.tv. The game will mark the final for both teams as neither have qualified for the OUA postseason.
