KINGSTON, Ont. (Nov. 25, 2024) – Amanda Siksna and Luka Syllas have been named the Queen’s University Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances this past weekend, hitting career milestones with Queen’s.
Siksna (Education) became Queen’s Women’s Volleyball’s all-time leading in blocks with 122 over the weekend. Siksna’s 122 blocks lead both the OUA and U SPORTS this season.
Siksna and the Gaels swept the York Lions over the weekend, with a 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19) win on Friday and a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 28-26) win on Saturday, improving their record to 9-1 on the season.
Siksna finished Friday’s win with two blocks while adding six kills and three digs. And on Saturday, Siksna recorded three blocks with four digs and four kills.
Queen’s, who top the OUA standings, close out the first half of their regular season next weekend, hosting the Toronto Varsity Blues in a doubleheader at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC). The Gaels will take on the Varsity Blues on Friday, November 29 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, November 30 at 2 p.m. Tickets for both games can be purchased on the Queen’s Gaels Tickets website.
Syllas (Concurrent Education) hit 1,000 career points with Queen’s Men’s Basketball over the weekend as the Gaels extended their winning streak to six games. Syllas hit the impressive milestone in year five with Queen’s Men’s Basketball. The U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian and Defensive Player of the Year is now eighth on Queen’s Men’s Basketball’s all-time scoring list.
Queen’s defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 80-76 on Friday night at the ARC, and the Lakehead Thunderwolves 84-79 on Saturday at the ARC. In Friday’s win, Syllas recorded 15 points while adding seven assists and five steals, and in Saturday’s win, Syllas ended with 17 points and three rebounds.
The Gaels are now second in the OUA East standings with a 7-1 record and will close out the first half of their regular season on the road next weekend, visiting the York Lions on Friday, November 29 at 8 p.m. and the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, November 30 at 6 p.m. Both games can be watched on OUA.tv.
