The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies 3-1 (25-21, 27-29, 25-14, 25-23) in Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball action on Sunday afternoon at the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud gymnasium.
The Aigles Bleues won 25-21, 27-29, 25-14 and 25-23 in the hotly contested game between the third and fifth place teams in the conference. Anne Paquette and Sara Chiasson each had 12 kills for the Aigles Bleues on offense. Kyana Sivret had 20 digs on defense and Paquette, 15.
The Huskies’ top offensive leads were Olivia Bell (Lahave Islands, NS) with 12 kills and Alena Platukhova (Minsk, Belarus) with 10. Bell also has 19 digs on defense. Cassidy Martin and Olivia Kokkinen (Uxbridge, ON) were named the players of the game for their respective teams.
Moncton won the first set and lost the second before asserting itself in the next two for the win. Both teams played spectacularly throughout the game with a close score line. The Huskies dropped to no. 3 with the weekend’s two losses. Moncton had won 3-2 on Friday against the Huskies in Halifax.
The Aigles Bleus will host the UNB Reds on Saturday at 2 p.m. in their final game of the first half of the year. The Huskies visit the Dalhousie University Tigers on Friday in their final game before the holiday break.
