#2 Camosun Chargers @ #1 VIU Mariners – Saturday February 25, 6:00pm MST | WATCH HERE
The island rivalry lives as the Mariners and Chargers meet for PACWEST gold on Saturday evening. Both programs have already punched their ticket to the CCAA national championship in two weeks as the Mariners will host the event.
Friday night the Mariners were pushed to the brink and needed to battle hard to get to today’s match. They dropped the first two sets to the fourth ranked COTR Avalanche and didn’t look to be playing their best volleyball. They started to regain momentum in the third set and fought hard to win the next three to advance to their ninth straight gold medal match.
The Chargers meanwhile had a bit of an easier road after a three-set sweep over the Douglas Royals. They are back in the gold medal match for the first time since 2020 when they fell to the Mariners. That season both teams also went to the nationals. For the Chargers this is their third appearance in the gold medal match and both times they have fallen to the Mariners.
In the regular season the Mariners won three of their four meetings, two of them in four sets along with a five-set classic in their last match-up on February 11th. The Chargers are the only team to have beaten the Mariners this season and it was a three-set sweep on February 9th at Camosun.
Regardless of the outcome the PACWEST will be very well represented in two weeks at the CCAA nationals hosted at VIU.
