The PACWEST is pleased to announce the Week 1 Volleyball Athletes of the Week following the opening weekend of the season.
Women’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Aimee Skinner – VIU Mariners
First-year outside hitter Aimee Skinner put the PACWEST on notice with a dominating performance for the Mariners in the opening week of the season. In two victories, she led the Mariners with a combined 30 kills (15 in each match) and 25 digs. In Thursday’s opener, she held a tie for the team lead in aces (4). Then in Friday’s rematch, she led the team in solo blocks (3).
Men’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Diego Policarpo – COTR Avalanche
Diego Policarpo was truly spectacular as the Avs returned home from their four-match island trip with a 3-1 record. The third year Kinesiology student from Brazil tabulated 60 kills, 8 aces, 28 digs and 10 blocks over the four matches. On Saturday alone he was the team’s top scorer in the match with 14 kills as the Avs knocked off the two-time defending PACWEST and CCAA champion Camosun Chargers 3-0. To finish off the weekend Diego had another 12 kills and a block as the Avs once again dispatched Camosun 3-0.
