Men’s Volleyball Week 2 Preview

Thursday night the Mariners and Avalanche opened the new PACWEST season in thrilling fashion, a five-set marathon that ended in a Mariners comeback win.

The Avalanche came out of the gate quickly winning 25-19 and 25-23 and looked to be in control. To the Mariners credit they did not go quietly or fold, but continued to battle winning the third set 26-24, then the fourth set 25-23 to force a deciding set. In the sudden death fifth the Mariners continued their momentum and completed the comeback with a 15-11 victory and move to 1-0 on the season.

Friday night is the rematch.

Douglas Royals @ CBC Bearcats – Friday October 20, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE

Both the Royals and Bearcats open the PACWEST season in Abbotsford and have been looking forward to getting back on the floor.

The Royals come into this season after finishing fourth last year but do return some key pieces with another year under their belt. Owen Lam and Lucas Sansone are expected to make an impact this year and will need to step up their production following the graduation of veteran Greg Moore.

Meanwhile the Bearcats have new life and new culture with the addition of new head coach Kyle Pankratz. He will rely on returning impact athletes Jonathan Letkemann and Cole Scott along with new recruits and local products Troy Ardell and Noah Friesen.
