UFV’s Gabrielle Attieh and Calgary’s Louis Kunstmann have been named the U SPORTS volleyball players of the week for the period ending February 26, 2023.
Gabrielle Attieh, UFV
Position: Outside Hitter
Hometown: Surrey, B.C.
Year of eligibility: 4th
Gabrielle Attieh is the U SPORTS player of the week in women’s volleyball after an impressive 66-point weekend against the Winnipeg Wesmen. In UFV’s first match in the Canada West playoffs, Attieh collected 27 points with 24 kills,18 digs, two blocks, and one service ace in a 3-1 defeat. On Saturday, the senior earned 15 points, a game-high 20 digs and 15 kills to help force game three in the quarterfinals. In the last match, Attieh received 24 points with match highs of 22 kills and 20 digs in a hard-fought five-set defeat.
Louis Kunstmann, Calgary
Position: Middle Blocker
Hometown: Bad Soden, Germany
Year of Eligibility: 2nd
Academic Program: Science
Louis Kunstmann is U SPORTS player of the week in men’s volleyball after a productive series sweep against the Mount Royal Cougars. Kunstmann earned player of the game in the first match against the Cougars, picking up 15 kills and posting an impressive .632 attack percentage in the 3-0 win. Kunstmann continued to pick up points in game two, earning 21 kills to help the Dinos to a 3-2 comeback win against the Cougars.
The Dinos face Trinity Western in the Canada West semifinals this week, starting Thursday March 2nd.
