Victoria Iannotti is the U SPORTS player of the week in women’s volleyball after an impressive 42-point weekend. The senior power hitter scored a season-high 24 points, with 22 kills and 11 digs in a 3-1 win over the Laval Rouge et Or. In Sunday’s game, Iannotti scored a game-high 18 points, including 14 kills, and added three digs in a hard-fought 3-1 defeat against the Sherbrooke Vert & Or.
The Martlets’ next game is against the UQAM Citadins this Friday.
Jesse Elser, Trinity Western
Position: Outside
Hometown: Calgary, Alta.
Year of eligibility: 4
Academic program: Business
The Spartans, now holding a record of 17-5 in conference play, were led by Jesse Elser’s tough serving throughout the weekend showdown against Thompson Rivers. Elser accumulated 12 aces in the sweep, with seven of them coming in a four-set victory on Friday. This tally of serves now stands as the second most (regular season play) in a single TWU match spanning four sets. Elser also totalled 27 kills and five blocks.
The Spartans wrap up their 2022-23 regular season with a two-game series at Brandon.
