WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL DIVISIONS

The regular season schedule will remain a two-division format. Teams will play a double round robin within their division totalling 18 matches each. The schedule features doubleheaders between schools alternating between men’s and women’s competition.

The regular season begins on Oct. 21 with four doubleheaders, including the Fanshawe Falcons (London) at the Redeemer Royals (Ancaster); the Centennial Colts (Scarborough) visiting the Fleming Knights (Peterborough); the Georgian Grizzlies (Barrie) entertaining the George Brown Huskies (Toronto); and Algonquin Wolves (Ottawa) at the Durham Lords (Oshawa).

The Humber Hawks (Etobicoke), who won both OCAA volleyball championships last season, open their respective regular seasons at home against the Niagara Knights (Welland) on Oct. 22. That same day, the Sheridan Bruins (Oakville), including the reigning OCAA men’s bronze medalists, will begin their season on the road against the Conestoga Condors (Kitchener). The Mohawk Mountaineers (Hamilton), including the defending OCAA women’s silver medalists, head north to visit the Cambrian Golden Shield (Sudbury).

The OCAA schedule also features some crosstown rivalry matches. The Boréal Vipères (Sudbury) and Golden Shield will play under the shadow of the Big Nickel on Nov. 12 at Cambrian and Jan. 27 at Boréal. Algonquin and La Cité Coyotes (Ottawa) will square off for National Capital bragging rights Oct. 29 at La Cité and again on Jan. 27 at Algonquin. The Steeltown Showdown between the Royals and Mountaineers will take place Nov. 5 at Mohawk and Jan. 12 at Redeemer. Finally in a half-dozen Toronto intercity doubleheaders, Centennial matches up with the Seneca Sting (North York) on Oct. 30 and Jan. 13; Seneca takes on George Brown on Dec. 3 and Jan. 11; and George Brown faces Centennial on Nov. 5 and Feb. 1.

A total of 360 volleyball matches will be played between October and February, with a mid-season break in December for exams.

Fanshawe (men) and Sheridan (women) have already qualified for their respective OCAA championships as the host school. The top seven teams in each division (excluding championship hosts) will compete in an interdivisional qualifying round, in which the top seed in each division hosts the bottom seed in the opposite division, and so forth. OCAA volleyball championships will return to an eight-team format with quarter-finals, semi-finals and medal matches being played at a single site.

The OCAA men’s and women’s volleyball championships will take place Feb. 23-25 at Fanshawe (London) and Sheridan (Oakville), respectively.

All OCAA schedules for the 2022-23 season, including dates, times and locations, are subject to change.
