On the men’s side, Team Sask took home gold while Alberta (silver) and Ontario (bronze) joined them on the podium.

Team Sask, lead by head coach Joel Dyck, defeated Alberta 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 25-27, 25-22) in their championship match at Canada Games Park in front of a packed feature court. Saskatchewan went 5-1 in the tournament, after only losing (3-1) to the Alberta team in their first preliminary match.

In women’s play, Team Manitoba came out on top while Alberta (silver) and BC (bronze) also took home hardware.

Team Manitoba, headed by coach Alix Krahn, won their final 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 25-10) against a competitive Team Alberta. Team Toba finished with an impressive 6-0 record after going undefeated in the preliminary and playoff rounds.

July 20-24, 2022, Volleyball Canada hosted the Canada Cup, a provincial tournament showcasing the top athletes from each province at the 7 Chiefs Sportsplex & Jim Starlight Centre on Tsuut’ina Nation, outside Calgary, Alberta.

This year, the Canada Cup tournament featured a Canada Games division on the men’s side, for teams to compete and gain experience leading up to Niagara 2022. Team Sask won gold in the men’s Canada Games division after a 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 25-22) sweep over Alberta.

In women’s action, it was once again a battle of Manitoba & Alberta for gold, with Team MB overtaking Alberta 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-20, 29-27).

Volleyball Canada would like to thank all participating teams, volunteers, referees, and fans for making the 2022 Niagara Canada Games an event to remember. The next Canada Summer Games is set to take place in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador in 2025.
