321 Student-Athletes Earn Academic Honours in 2022-23

Published on

GUELPH, Ont. – The University of Guelph Department of Athletics is proud to announce that 321 student-athletes achieved an average of 80% or higher during the 2022-23 season.

Out of 799 Gryphon student-athletes who competed at the OUA or U SPORTS level during the 2022-23 season, 321 of those were able to reach the 80% plateau, or higher, in their academic pursuits. As a result, Gryphon varsity athletes have successfully maintained an impressive ratio with 1-in-3 earning the title of Academic Award Winner. The total number of Gryphon student-athletes earning Academic Award Winner status also increased by 9 from the previous season, with the 321 academic award winners in 2022-23 edging the total number of 312 student-athletes who earned the honour back in 2021-22

“We are incredibly proud of what our Gryphon student-athletes were able to accomplish this past season, both in the classroom as well as on the playing field,” says Scott McRoberts, Director of Athletics at the University of Guelph. “We know that each and every student-athlete on this list has worked hard to get where they are, and it is a privilege to be able to watch and support our varsity athletes as they continue to push themselves to be their very best, both academically and athletically. Academic support is a priority for us, and these numbers would not be possible without our outstanding programs, people and systems we have in place. Thank you to the Pearson family mentorship program, coaches, academic advisors, faculties, and Colleges who’ve created an excellent environment for our student-athletes to reach their goals.”

Listed below, in order by faculty, is a complete list of the Gryphon Academic Award Winners from the 2022-23 season.
