2019 CCAA Men’s Volleyball All-Canadians

Simon Friesen

Friesen, a two-time CCAA All-Canadian, led the Blues to a tie for second place in the PACWEST with an 18-6 record. The fourth-year setter led the conference with 786 assists. Friesen was also a consistent threat offensively, as well as at the service line and blocking positions. The team captain, Friesen’s role was especially crucial in Capilano’s first season under a new coaching staff as he provided stability and leadership on and off the court.

The PACWEST Player of the Year led the Royals to a 20-4 record and first-place finish in the conference. Marriott was second in the PACWEST with 3.48 average kills per set. The second-year outside hitter has exceptional athletic ability and strong academic foundations. Despite being a sophomore, Marriott has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities with his teammates, peers and the entire college community. He is also involved with Volleyball BC and various grassroots community initiatives in coaching and volunteering.

Regan Fathers

Mitch Lewington

Red Deer Kings

NAIT Ooks

Fathers, the ACAC Player of the Year, led the conference with an incredible 5.37 kills per set. The fifth-year right side led the Kings to a second-place finish in the competitive ACAC South Division with an 18-6 record. He is Red Deer’s all-time kills and aces leader despite only starting for the Kings for two seasons. The Red Deer captain has a consistent drive to be the best and to always push himself and his teammates to rise to the occasion when it matters most.

Lewington racked up 8.09 assists per set and led the Ooks to a 17-7 record and second-place finish in the ACAC North Division. Not only was the third-year setter the main artery for the Ooks offence, he was also defensively sound, recording 145 digs and 32 blocks. Lewington is quiet, humble and is an outstanding student-athlete and competitor who amazes his teammates with his abilities. He is a former member of the Australian Junior National team.

Wesley Lau

Michel Leblanc

Conestoga Condors

Coyotes de La Cité

The OCAA Player of the Year led the conference in scoring with 4.8 points per set. Lau, a fifth-year left side, also ranked first with 4.07 kills per set and led Conestoga in digs and aces. Lau’s Condors improved to 13-9 this season and finished in a tie for fourth in the competitive OCAA West Division. A walk on five years ago, Lau is a four-time Condors Men’s Volleyball team most valuable player. He is also former CCAA Academic All-Canadian recipient.

Leblanc led the Coyotes to a 16-5 record and second-place finish in the OCAA East Division. The fourth-year outside hitter ranked second in the conference with 3.34 kills per set and third with 55 service aces. Leblanc is a model student-athlete who excels on the court but also in the classroom, on campus and in the community. His leadership style has been very effective in giving the team goals and objectives to attain but not forgetting that volleyball is enjoyable to play.

Alexis Tournier

Griffons de l’Outaouais

Titans de Limoilou

Tournier led the RSEQ with 71 service aces and ranked second with 5.18 points per set and 3.89 kills per set. He led the Griffons to a 9-7 record in the conference and an appearance at CCAA Nationals. In his third season with Outaouais, Tournier has excelled with his athletic talent. He also has an outstanding work ethic and dedication to his team and is an excellent ambassador for the Griffons Men’s Volleyball program.

In his third season with the Titans, the RSEQ Player of the Year led his squad to a 12-4 record and first-overall finish. Fortin, Limoilou’s captain, led the RSEQ with 5.69 points per set and 4.60 kills per set and was named MVP at the Coupe de l’Est. He is very much involved in youth development and serves as an excellent role model to his fellow student-athletes. Fortin works with elementary school children and participates in several youth camps during the off-season.

UNBSJ Seawolves

Holland Hurricanes

The ACAA Player of the Year led the conference in all key block categories as well as hitting percentage. Hamilton led the Seawolves to a 9-6 record and second-place finish in the ACAA. The third-year middle has an exemplary work ethic and is a fierce competitor who thrives under pressure when the game is on the line. Highly respected by his teammates, Hamilton’s commitment, leadership and intensity are the driving force behind the Seawolves success.

Butler led the ACAA with 4.4 points per set and 205 kills and was also among the league leaders in service aces, blocks and digs. The fifth-year outside left is now a two-time CCAA All-Canadian and is also a CCAA Academic All-Canadian. The Holland captain exemplifies leadership on and off the court. Butler’s passion and love of the game is infectious; he is the spark that ignites the Hurricanes.
