Charging Into National Finale

The Camosun Chargers volleyball program will try to create history on Saturday as both the women’s and men’s teams will play for CCAA national gold! A PACWEST volleyball school has never won national gold in the both genders in the same year.

The women are in Nanaimo and earned a berth in Saturday’s gold medal match at 6:00pm after an opening three-set sweep over the ACAA champion Holland Hurricanes followed by a four-set victory on Thursday over the ACAC wildcard the Augustana Vikings.

In the gold medal match the Chargers will face the Lakeland Rustlers who have lost just four sets all season. They were 18-1 during the regular campaign and dropped a set in Thursday’s semi-final against the Humber Hawks.

Oddly enough this was the identical match-up in 2017 when the Chargers hosted the national championship and lost to the Rustlers in the finale. They will look for a measure of revenge and try for their first ever national gold medal.

The Chargers men meanwhile are vying for their second straight national title when they meet the host Humber Hawks on Saturday afternoon in Toronto. The match is scheduled for 4:00pm PST.

On Wednesday the Chargers beat the Providence Pilots in four-sets before getting past the Fanshawe Falcons in Thursday’s semi-final in four-sets as well.

In Saturday’s gold medal match they will meet the three-time Ontario champion Humber Hawks who have breezed through the national championship tournament so far beating the ACAA champion Dragons de Sainte-Anne and the Volontaires de Sherbrooke from the RSEQ.

All-Canadian Eduardo Bida has been an absolute beast for the Chargers in the first two matches recording 36 kills including 20 in the semi-final win over the Falcons. Brendan Folkerts has also been outstanding, collecting 21 kills in the first two matches.

The Chargers are trying to become the first CCAA team to win back-to-back national golds for the first time since 2016 and 2017 when the Red Deer Kings did it. If they are successful, it will be their third national gold in school history.

Good luck to the Chargers and the Chargers!! #PACWESTBCStrong
