The York University Lions women’s volleyball team faced off against the Western Mustangs once more this Saturday, aiming for a different outcome following their 3-0 loss to the Mustangs on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Mustangs began assertively, putting the ball down twice before York’s Amarai Endes secured the first point for the Lions. The set was marked by both teams showcasing strong defence and maintaining a close match. Alisa Trubyuk’s decisive play, resulting in a point, broke the deadlock, ultimately leading the Lions to claim the set 26-24 to take a 1-0 lead.
- Western aimed to even the score in the second set, but another tight set stayed in favour of York. The close contest resulted in York claiming the set 25-21, propelling them to a 2-0 lead and placing the Mustangs on the verge of a sweep.
- Endes initiated the third set with a rapid kill, setting the tone for the Lions performance. With a razor-thin margin and minimal room for error, York came ahead, winning the set 25-20 and swept the match 3-0.
- Megan McDonald’s 25 assists along with Victoria Herrington’s 9 kills helped in bringing home the Lions first victory of the season.
LOOKING AHEAD:
With a solid first win behind them, the Lions look to continue their winning ways when they host the Guelph Gryphons on Friday, Nov. 24 at Tait Mckenzie Center. First serve is slated at 6:00 p.m.
