WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS BATTLE, BUT FALL TO THE GAELS ON THE ROAD

The Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team had a tough test ahead of them as they began the 2024-25 OUA season this past weekend on the road.

The Lakers faced the Queen’s Gaels in a pair of matches in Kingston, ON and despite an improved effort in Saturday’s contest, the Lakers came up short in both matches.

Friday night, the Lakers dropped a 3-0 (16-25, 18-25, 23-25) decision to the Gaels.

Paige Owen led the Lakers with seven kills and eight points, Anna Marie Horvat added five kills and Oceane Raymond-Leduc had four in the match.

The Lakers came up just short the following day, falling in five thrilling sets, 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 9-15) to close out their weekend in Kingston.

Maya Macmillan led the Lakers will 11 kills and 15.5 points, while Owen added nine kills and 12 points in the match.

Nipissing remains on the road next weekend, facing the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton.
