The Dalhousie Tigers beat the Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 25-27, 25-12) on January 30, in Halifax.

Dalhousie Jumped out to an early lead as Lucy Glen-Carter (Toronto, ON), who is tops in the AUS in kills, was up to her usual tricks. The Sea-Hawks made a run midway through the set but Glen-Carter and Ella Hornby‘s (Calgary, AB) 11 combined kills were too much for MUN to overcome as Dalhousie won the set 25-20.

Memorial started the second set off looking far more composed. Lydia Grawer (St. Louis, MO) was impressive for the Sea-Hawks on both offence and defence as she began to pile up the kills and digs. Their effort fell short though, as Tigers rookie Paris Stewart (Halifax, NS) began to etch her name into the stat sheet on the way to another 25-20 set victory.

The third set was much closer as the Sea-Hawks fought to stay alive. Kamryn Sanger (Grand Falls, NL) stepped up for Memorial with a couple kills and aces that put pressure on the Tigers. The Tigers did not go easily but thanks to the efforts of Grawer and Sanger the Sea-Hawks won the set 27-25.

Dalhousie setter Brett Boldon (Fredericton, NB) was huge for the Tigers in the fourth set as she continuously set up Stewart, Hornby, and Glen-Carter to keep the offence flowing. The Sea-Hawks fought hard, but Dalhousie ended up winning the set 25-12 to win the match.

Hornby was named Subway Player of the Game for the Tigers after totaling 10 kills and posting an impressive .529 hit percentage in the match.

Dalhousie moves to 13-2 with the win while Memorial now sits at  0-15 for the season.

Both teams will be back in action this Friday when Dalhousie looks to build on today’s momentum as they host UNB. Meanwhile, Memorial will look to bounce back at home against Moncton.
