LANGLEY, British Columbia – This Week in Sparta has all six winter teams back in action, with women’s hockey at home, men’s and women’s basketball playing their first home double-header weekend of the season, and men’s and women’s volleyball and men’s hockey on the road.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY 
Friday, November 22 vs Mount Royal Cougars, Langley, B.C.

NOTABLE 

  • The Spartans are currently in third spot in the West division at 7-5, while the Cougars are in second place in the West division at 8-2-1-1.
  • TWU is currently on a program-best six-game winning streak.
  • Last weekend on the road TWU swept the MacEwan Griffins, 4-1, and 3-0 in Edmonton, Alta.
  • Last weekend the Mount Royal Cougars swept the Manitoba Bisons at home in Calgary, Alta. The Cougars won 7-0 on Friday night, and 3-2 in overtime on Saturday night at the Flames Community Arena.
  • TWU is currently 1-14 lifetime against the Cougars. Last season TWU lost 4-0, and 2-0 to MacEwan on the road in Calgary, Alta.
  • The Spartans’ lone win against the Cougars was in the 2023 Canada West play-offs. TWU lost the best of three series 2-1 to the eventual national champion Cougars in Calgary.

  • The Spartans are currently in fifth spot in the Pacific Division at 2-4, while the WolfPack are in seventh spot in the Pacific at 0-6.
  • Last weekend on the road the Spartans split with the UBC Okanagan, winning 73-59 on Friday, and losing 73-58 on Saturday.
  • Last weekend at home the WolfPack were swept by the UFV Cascades. Losing 87-44 on Friday and winning 76-27 on Saturday.
  • TWU is currently 25-13 lifetime against the WolfPack. TWU’s last loss to Thompson Rivers in conference play was 60-50 on November 2, 2019, on the road in Kamloops, B.C.
  • The Spartans are currently on a seven-game winning streak against the WolfPack.

  • Last weekend at home the WolfPack split with the UFV Cascades. Losing 81-73 on Friday and winning 71-54 on Saturday.
  • TWU is currently 24-13 lifetime against the WolfPack. TWU’s last loss to Thompson Rivers in conference play was 60-50 on November 2, 2019, on the road in Kamloops, B.C.
  • The Spartans have won six of their last seven games against the WolfPack. The lone loss was 79-62 last November in Kamloops, B.C.

  • Last weekend at home TWU lost to the MacEwan Griffins twice at the Aldergrove Community Centre, losing 8-5 on Friday, and 5-4 in overtime on Saturday.
  • Last weekend the Mount Royal Cougars swept the Manitoba Bisons on the road in Winnipeg, Man. The Cougars won 4-3 on Friday night, and 4-1 on Saturday night at the Wayne Fleming Arena in Winnipeg, Man.
  • TWU is currently 1-9 lifetime against the Cougars. Last season TWU lost their four games against Mount Royal.
  • The Spartans’ lone win against the Cougars was in 2022-23 when TWU won 4-3 in Calgary, Alta.

 
 About Spartan Athletics 
As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 13 sports in the Canada West conference, including women’s and men’s soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, cross country, and track & field, as well as women’s rugby sevens. TWU also competes as an independent team in men’s rugby, as well as women’s and men’s disc golf. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 13 U SPORTS team championships and 32 Canada West team championships.
