HAMILTON, Ont. —The McMaster Marauders women’s volleyball team begins their regular season on the road on October 25th against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
The Marauders are looking to have a similar season to last year which brought them to the OUA Championship. The maroon will enter the season with a younger team and will need to rely on their veterans to lead the way.
Marauders Head Coach, Nathan Janzen, has strong belief in his group. Janzen says, “We’re excited to build on the momentum of last season’s fantastic finish…this year’s team has a fresh energy and the ability to surprise people. Our young players are determined to continue growing, and our leaders know what it takes to compete at the highest level…”
Key Players
Sullie Sundara (Kanata, Ont.), Outside Hitter
Sundara is coming off of a monster season, where she recorded 143 kills, 138 receptions, and was named to the OUA First All-Star Team.
Olivia Julien (Toronto, Ont.), Outside Hitter
The 2023-24 OUA Rookie of the Year is going to be key player for the Marauders. Julien was huge in her rookie season, recording 160 kills and 286 receptions in 63 sets.
Chayse Victoria (Oakville, Ont.), Setter
The fourth-year setter will be the leader of the offense. Last season, she recorded 173 assists and 15 service aces. Victoria will be a key contributor to the Marauders offensive attack.
Coach Janzen is confident in his team, he says, “…We have the pieces in place to achieve great things together.” The women’s team will look to earn a chance at the Quigley Cup and their quest begins on Friday.
