(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s volleyball team is adding setter Lauren Roworth, of Victoria, BC, to their recruiting class of 2023.
The 19-year-old joins the REDS ahead of the 2023-24 Atlantic University Sport season in a transfer from Capilano University, in North Vancouver.
“I was drawn to play at UNB because of the team atmosphere, the stunning facilities, and the endless opportunities I saw,” said Roworth.
During the 2022-23 Pacific Western Athletic Association season, the 5’6” Roworth appeared in 17 of the Blues 20 matches, averaging more than five assists (5.17) and almost two digs (1.94) per set.
“Strengths I will bring to the team will be my drive to get better and my commitment to helping the team succeed,” she said. “I’ve always played for my team rather than my own personal plan, so I plan on continuing that mindset and, hopefully, I can help the team succeed.”
Before her one season at Capilano University, Roworth was a four-year standout on the senior team at Victoria’s Lambrick Park Secondary School, helping the Lions qualify for the Vancouver Island Championship all four years, earning team MVP honours and serving as team captain.
She also played six years of club volleyball with Victoria’s Momentum club, helping different age division teams claim six Vancouver Island championships. In 2021-22, Roworth led Momentum to the U18 provincial championship, earning MVP honours at the provincial championship tournament.
She was also part of Team BC’s zone program in 2019-2020.
“As a RED, short-term, I hope to help the team qualify for the national championship tournament this season,” said Roworth. “Long-term, I hope to win nationals. I also look forward to building up the REDS program.”
Roworth will study Psychology while attending UNB.
