(HALIFAX, NS) The Dalhousie Tigers topped the UNB REDS 3-0 Friday evening in Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball action.

The Tigers won with scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-18.

Dal got out to a hot start, before the REDS brought it back, making it a 4-3 set early.

UNB would ride the momentum and grab a three-point lead, reaching double digits first at 10-7. Dalhousie then went on a long run of serves by Lucy Glen-Carter (Toronto, ON). Some terrific kills would see them tie it and then take the lead at 19-18.

Another strong run by the Tigers saw them close out the first set 25-21.

Another quick start to set two saw the REDS take a lead at 7-6, as the teams went back-and-forth.

A big kill by Heather Benko (Sechelt, BC) would give UNB their first two-point lead of the set at 9-7.

Continuing a strong match, Grace Calnan (Dartmouth, NS) had a big kill to even the set 10-10. The Tigers continued to fight back, slowly building a lead, going ahead 21-18.

From there it was nearly all Tigers, and Dal closed the set 25-19, taking a two-set lead.

After Dal got out to an early three-point lead in the third, the REDS got back into the set with Bailey Lemeiux (Fredricton, NB) finding open space on the floor to get UNB within one at 7-6. Another powerful kill by Glen-Carter would see the Tigers extend the lead to 13-10.

From there it was all Dal, as Glen-Carter once again had a kill to close it out 25-17 for a straight-sets victory.

Glen-Carter was named Subway Player of the Game for her 19 kill, 12 dig performance.

Benko led the REDS with 11 kills while Paige Lehto (North Vancouver, BC) had 10 digs.

Dal, now 13-2, return to action Saturday, against Acadia, at 2:00pm.

The REDS, now 8-8, look to rebound Saturday when they visit the Saint Mary’s Huskies. Game time is 2:00pm.
